1772Bektashis

Anwendungshinweise

  • Members of the he Bektashi dervish order that was popular among the peasants of Anatolia and in the Balkans from the founding of the Ottoman Empire until its demise. Members of the order still are an important part of Albanian Muslims. The founder is said to have been Hajji Bektaş, a mystic who went to Anatolia in the 13th century from northeastern Iran. The order’s practices were unorthodox for Sunni Muslims as they blended elements of Islam with Turkish shamanism, while some of the order's practices resembled those of Christianity. This, along with the tolerant spirit of the Bektashis, became a factor for the order's wide appeal to Christians in the Balkan provinces of the Empire, something that is regarded as having contributed to the conversion of many to Islam.
