- A legal procedure that occurs in ancient Athens. According to Athenian law, a graphe was a public criminal prosecution. Through the graphe paranomon any citizen could bring an accusation against the proponent of any law or decree which in his view was illegal and seek to have it abolished, at the same time indicating which law it had contravened. A law or decree was illegal if it had any substantial or formal defects, such as the omission of the probouleuma from the council.
