Scope note

  • Political offices constitute a structure of positions that are vested with power and authority and enable incumbents to handle issues of government in terms of the internal or external affairs of a polity. Political offices enable power and authority to be transferred to the next incumbent without requiring changes in the polity's institutional regime. They are associated with institutionally complex polities, such as state formations.
