Scope note
- Military blockades from land and/or sea of an inhabited and/or fortified place aiming at its capture by assault or surrender. Sieges often include strike operations against the defenders, but they are mostly based on exercising pressure through the cutting of supply lines, which can lead the besieged to negotiations for surrender.
