Scope note
- Dramatic device by which an element or a set of elements (persons, actions, situations) appearing relatively detached from the rest of the play, become the object of the spectator’s gaze on-stage, i.e. of the actors impersonating the spectators, while at the same time they themselves are watched by the audience.
