Scope note
- In ancient Athens certain public mandatory duties conferred upon the wealthiest citizens. The constitution of liturgies was a kind of indirect regular or occasional taxation. Regular liturgies were the choregia, gymnasiarchy etc. while trierarchies and eisphora were occasional.
