Scope note
- Sports competitions cover a wide range of events from local sports competitions to the Olympic Games. Such events, apart from being competitions between elite athletes or even mass participants, are social -and often media- occasions that bring together small or great numbers of people and a series of economic and cultural activities. Sports competitions can be categorised according to their sporting characteristics, their spatial and temporal characteristics, their size, their financial characteristics, and their renown.
