Scope note
- A legislative act that abrogates any right of property over humans, prohibits any practices connected with or deriving from it, and offers slaves equal legal status with the rest of the population. The abolition of slavery in Europe and America took place in the late 18th and early 19th centuries and was the outcome of political movements or liberal revolutions.
