The Digital Hornbostel & Sachs System is a taxonomy based on the “Classification of Musical Instruments” by Erich Moritz von Hornbostel and Curt Sachs (see Systematik der Musikinstrumente. Ein Versuch. Zeitschrift für Ethnologie 46/4-5, 1914, 553-590; English version: Classification of Musical Instruments: Translated from the Original German by Anthony Baines and Klaus P. Wachsmann. The Galpin Society Journal 14, 1961, 3-29; DOI: 10.2307/842168; https://www.jstor.org/stable/842168). It was developed at the Phonogrammarchiv of the Austrian Academy of Sciences for documentation purposes in its database and catalogue, and was made available in SKOS format within the framework of a cooperation with the ACDH-OeAW in 2015.
