gas chromatography
Definition
- The technique enables to trace and detect amounts of organic residues. Therefore it is possible to analyse molecules surviving in an inorganic matrix such as pottery or soil, or surviving in morphological organic remains such as lipids in seeds or bone. The greatest virtue of this technique is the high resolution that may be attained in the separation of the components of a complex mixture. Normally carried out in combination with mass spectrometry.
