- Naturally occurring mineral made up of silicon and oxygen (SiO2), which is resistant to weathering and found in abundance on the earth´s surface. It has a grain size ranging from 0.06 to 2 mm and is commonly used as temper in ceramic production and as major component in glassmaking.
